Handling problems |
Whenever there are differences between host family and au pair, both can get in touch with me, I will listen to both parts and offer counselling and advice.
Problems may be related to clashes of personality, which are difficult to solve, or related to some kind of break of the agreement, for example, au pair hours increase, not respecting au pair free time or similar, or au pair not performing her duties well in different ways which are easier to solve if both parts do their best. If after a reasonable period of time, situation remains the same, then any part can put an end to the agreement giving 2 weeks notice. Au pairs can request a change of family, the same way a family can request a change of au pair. During this time Destino Idiomas will endeavour to find an alternative family/aupair under certain conditions. Au pairs should carry on with duties and host families should carry on providing pocket money, room and board. |
When do I have to apply? |
Usually a couple of months in advance.
More time is needed if you are applying for an au pair visa. |
Which is the best time of the year to join the programme? |
Summer stays are very popular. From 1 to 3 months.
Longer stays for school year, starting end of August/September till end of June. |
Can I choose destination? |
You can state your preferences in the application form.
However destination cannot be guaranteed. Most important is matching au pair and family rather than au pair and destination. |
Do you take male applicants? |
Yes, I do.
Still, most families are interested in female au pairs. So, male applicants must present their files well in advance. |
Will I be in touch with other au pairs? |
I usually provide with an au pair contact list of other au pairs in Spain.
They may or may be not in your same destination, but it is a reference for you. For instance, if you are visiting other location for tourism, you may contact au pairs in that location. |
